Glossary of common moving terms and acronyms.


PCS (Permanent Change of Station)

The official relocation of an active duty military service member to a different duty location.

PPM (Personally Procured Move)

A move where the service member arranges and pays for the move, then receives reimbursement from the government.

DITY (Do-It-Yourself Move)

An older term for PPM, where the service member moves their own household goods.

TMO (Transportation Management Office)

The office responsible for managing and coordinating military moves.

HHG (Household Goods)

Personal property and belongings being moved during a PCS.

CONUS (Continental United States)

Refers to locations within the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia.

OCONUS (Outside Continental United States)

Refers to locations outside the continental U.S., such as Alaska, Hawaii, or overseas.

TDY (Temporary Duty)

A short-term assignment at a location other than the permanent duty station.

POV (Privately Owned Vehicle)

A vehicle personally owned by the service member, often shipped or driven during a PCS.
